Description:
To see your local county government at work as relates to Assessor (establishing property assessed values); County Clerk (issuance of marriage licenses; conduct of civil marriage ceremonies; maintenance of vital statistics); Recorder (recordation of property related documents); and Registrar of Voters (learn about registering to vote and voting).

Environmental Discovery Center

 

Description:
The Environmental Discovery Center offers multi-sensory, hands-on activities for people of all ages. Rotating exhibits focus on a different aspect of the natural resources of Sonoma County. Center's Features - Nature Trails, Outdoor Amphitheater, Storytelling Cavern, Science Activities, Technology Tent - interactive computer games, Theater - Educational videos Winter Hours - (September 1 - June 15) - Noon - 5 p.m. - Wednesday - Sunday Summer Hours - (10 a.m. - 5 p.m. - Wednesday- Friday) (Noon to 5 p.m. - Saturday & Sunday)  Free admission with paid parking at Spring Lake Regional Park.  School Field Trips - The EDC's programs reinforce California State science standards by grade levels. $3 per student, includes 2.5 hours of instruction from a staff teacher; use of the EDC and the Shady Oaks picnic area; parking for participants; and each student receives a journal.

Integrated Waste Management

 

Description:
The Integrated Waste Management Division offers tours of the Central Disposal Site to interested groups. Past tour groups have included students from Sonoma State University, local elementary and high schools, and even delegations from foreign countries. Tours include the recycling and reuse center and the composting area. When possible, smaller tours may also include the landfill-to-gas power plant. Tours, which last approximately 1½ hours, are offered Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, by appointment only, starting no later than 2:30 p.m.
