Training and Employee DevelopmentAnnual Volunteer Recognition ReceptionIn celebration of National Volunteer Week, each year the County of Sonoma honors its volunteers at the Veterans Memorial Building in Santa Rosa. Each year, over 2,000 people donate their time to a County department or program to make Sonoma County a better place to live. Volunteers act as tutors and mentors to abused and neglected children and give support to the mentally ill. Trained volunteers assist with searches for lost and missing persons and others respond to hazardous materials incidents. Volunteers groom, cuddle, and tend to animals in the County shelter. They guide visitors in County parks, assist with research, translate into Spanish, and perform countless other meaningful deeds that augment County services by over three million dollars annually. A balloon arch welcomes the volunteers. ![]() The Santa Rosa Veterans Memorial Building is transformed by unique balloon decorations donated by Dana Black of Custom Balloon Creations.
