Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention
The Alcohol and Other Drug Program works in concert with local community based organizations, community partners, and government agencies to promote a healthy Sonoma County. The program uses a continuum of prevention strategies to support overall community well-being through the prevention of alcohol and drug use.
Early Intervention Strategies - Prevention strategies aimed to address the early stages of high-risk behavior and support healthy life decisions, ultimately preventing the need for more extensive services.
Project SUCCESS
A student assistance program working to reduce high-risk behaviors among youth at eight high schools in five Sonoma County school districts.
Parent Project/Padres Unidos
A parent training program for parents with difficult or out of control children and teenagers. Padres Unidos provides a similar training program for monolingual Latino parents of high-risk youth. The programs are offered in four locations in Sonoma County.
Environmental Prevention Strategies - Prevention efforts aimed at changing or influencing community conditions, standards, institutions, structures, systems and policies.
Sonoma County Prevention Partnership
The Prevention Partnership is a countywide coalition focused on developing population strategies to address alcohol and other drugs through local advocacy and policy.
Environmental Prevention Coalitions to Reduce Underage and Adult High Risk Drinking
Local coalitions seeking to change community norms, policies, and laws that affect the availability, promotion, sale, and use of alcohol to create a community environment that promotes healthy choices and reduces risk.
Friday Night Live
The mission of Friday Night Live/Club Live is to build partnerships for positive and healthy youth development that engage youth as active leaders and resources in their communities. Local Friday Night Live (FNL) chapters implement youth-led environmental prevention strategies to reduce underage drinking use and related problems in Sonoma County.
Additional Prevention Strategies - As part of a broader alcohol and drug prevention initiative taken on by the Division, Prevention & Planning supports two additional prevention efforts focused on emerging alcohol and drug issues facing the community.
Sonoma County Methamphetamine Prevention Task Force
Originally convened in November 2007, the Task Force focuses on implementing policy and systems changes to prevent the use of methamphetamine in Sonoma County.
Aging Adult Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition
The Aging Adult Substance Abuse Prevention (AASAP) Coalition was formed to increase public awareness of substance misuse/abuse among older adults; improve the ability of caregivers and health care providers to identify potential substance abuse; and, increase the capacity of the treatment community to effectively address substance abuse in the aging adult population.
