September 11, 2009: CDC Guidance for Care to Pregnant Women
The 2009 H1N1 flu is the predominant flu virus (97%) circulating throughout the country, including Sonoma County. Pregnant women and young infants are among the groups considered at most risk for serious illness or even death from the 2009 H1N1 virus.

July 10, 2009: Pertussis Activity Increased in Sonoma County
The County of Sonoma Department of Health Services Public Health Division has received several reports of confirmed pertussis cases in recent weeks. Although the overall number of pertussis cases this year is low, 14 of the 15 cases reported in 2009 have been diagnosed since mid-May, indicating that pertussis activity is currently high in Sonoma County.

June 26, 2009: Dramatic Increase in H1N1 in Sonoma County
In a press release on June 25th, Dr. Mark Horton, California State Health Officer, urged all Californians to "remain vigilant about preventing spread" of H1N1 virus. Although the regular flu season is over, cases of influenza-like illness (ILI) are being reported at levels higher than normal for this time of year and even higher than what is typically seen at the height of the regular flu season.

Over the last week, Sonoma County Public Health has identified an increase in H1N1 activity in Sonoma County. We anticipate that we will continue to see more cases over the next several weeks and months now that the H1N1 virus has become well established in California.

Clinical Services
The Public Health Clinics offer colposcopy services to local health providers. The clinic schedule (pdf) is available for download and printing for your clients.

CMR Disease Reporting
Title 17, California Code of Regulations (CCR) requires health care providers to report the occurence of many diseases or conditions to the local health officer.

Emergency Medical Services
The EMS Agency provides regulatory oversight of the emergency medical services system.

HIV Consultation
The Center for HIV Prevention and Care helps local physicians keep abreast of the latest developments in HIV treatments, provides assistance for difficult cases, and services as a local access point for experimental treatments and clinical drug trials for patients throughout the care system.

Laboratory Services
The Public Health Laboratory provides services to clinical laboratories through reference work and training, and laboratory support to private medical providers for the diagnosis and control of communicable diseases.

Latent Tuberculosis Infection (LTBI) Guidelines and Support
The Sonoma County TB Control Program provides medical consultation to health providers, and treatment and case management for latent and active cases referred to the program.

Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) 2004
The California Department of Health Services (CDHS) STD Control Branch has requested that local health departments alert the medical community about the recent appearance of Lymphogranuloma Venereum (LGV) in California.

MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus)
To educate our local community about MRSA, the Department of Health Services has developed this web page. Information is provided for the local community and for health providers.
