This testing service is available to health providers and clinics in Sonoma, Mendocino, and Lake counties.
Testing Method
Pertussis testing uses both molecular (RT-PCR) and culture.
Specimens
One nasopharygeal swab placed into a Regan-Lowe transport medium.
Specimen Collection
Nasopharygeal swab.
Specimen Storage
Store the specimen at room temperature.
Specimen Transport
Specimens must be transported at room temperature, and may be dropped off by courier at the laboratory during normal business hours.
Testing Results
RT-PCR results will be faxed or phone in 1 to 2 days. Culture results are available in 10 days.
Molecular testing can be ordered for smear positive samples.
