Enteric Culture Testing
This testing service is available to health providers and clinics in Sonoma, Mendocino, and Lake counties.
Testing Method
Enteric Culture is used for isolation and identification of enteric pathogens: Salmonella, Shigella, E. coli 0157:H7, Yersinia, Campylobacter and Vibrio species.
Specimens
Enteric Culture is performed on stool sample specimens.
Specimen Collection
Please collect 2 to 3 grams of specimen, and place the sample within a Cary-Blair medium.
Specimen Storage
DO NOT FREEZE any specimen; store the specimen at room temperature.
Specimen Transport
Specimens may be dropped off by courier at the laboratory during normal business hours, or sent by mail.
Testing Results
Results are available 3 to 5 normal working days after receipt of specimen at the laboratory. A written report will be provided for all specimens received. Positive results will be phoned and/or faxed upon request.
Specimen Submission Forms
Physician's order, patient information and billing information must accompany the specimen. Use the Monster form for submission.
