HIV Testing and Prevention

Do you think you may have been exposed to HIV? These guidelines can help you determine if you should be tested.

You are at risk if you:

  • Have had sex with a person who has had other partners.
  • Have shared injection drug needles, or had sex with someone who has.
  • Had a blood transfusion before 1985, when HIV testing began, or have had sex with someone who did.

You are probably NOT at risk if you:

  • Have had no sex, or have had sex only with one partner who doesn't have HIV and who only has sex with you.
  • Have not shared injection drug needles, and have not had sex with anyone who has.
  • Did not receive a blood transfusion or any blood products before 1985.

If you think you might have been exposed to HIV, visit our testing clinic, or call our HIV Helpline at 707-565-5360 for information on other countywide locations and times.

The Center also provides prevention support to help individuals who want to reduce their risk of infection. You can also read our testing FAQ to learn more about HIV testing.
