Commission on AIDS: How to Join
Mission Statement
The Sonoma County Commission on AIDS is committed to assisting the community of Sonoma County to develop and implement an efficient HIV strategy plan that addresses prevention, treatment, care, and assures the preservation of human rights.
The Commission is continually seeking persons who have the skills, interest and ability to serve on a County-wide planning body. The estimated time commitment for a Commissioner is currently four to eight hours minimum per month. This is an unpaid, advisory position, appointed by the Board of Supervisors for a three year period. Appointed members are required to disclose any financial conflicts of interest they may have with services, agencies or companies likely to be affected by decisions made by the Commission.
We are especially interested in recruiting persons from the following perspectives:
- Persons living with HIV disease, including gay men, gay men of color, recovering substance users, women with HIV disease, and hemophiliacs/ persons infected through blood products;
- Representatives of communities of color, including Latinos/Hispanics, African-Americans, Native Americans and Asian/Pacific Islanders;
- Advocates for children with HIV disease, injection drug users, and;
- Persons with expertise in specific areas, including HIV prevention services, Hospital planning/administration, primary medical care, mental health, social services, HIV caregivers, and government and community organizations.
