Our Mission
The role of the Mental Health Division is to promote the recovery and wellness of individuals with serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI) through specialty mental health services, advocacy, and education. Services are provided in partnerships with clients, families, other agencies, and community providers.
Our Goal - High Quality Recovery for Our Clients
The Sonoma County Mental Health Division provides services for adults experiencing serious and persistent mental illness and children with serious emotional disturbances (SED).
Our overall goal is to help clients become well, active participants within our community. We use a recovery-based model that emphasizes partnerships (with clients, families, and community providers/organizations), cultural sensitivity, respectfulness, and compassion. We strive to serve clients wherever they are their homes, on the streets, or in homeless shelters. Services are provided regardless of the individual's ability to pay, within available resources.
Our Funding
Each year the Mental Health Division serves approximately 9,000 individuals with serious and persistent mental illness, including 1,300 children with serious emotional disturbances. The majority of the funding for County mental health services comes from state and federal funds, including those provided through the Mental Health Services Act, and Medicaid. When there are state and federal budget cuts, the level (though not the quality) of our services may be affected.
